Dorset House

London, Westminster

Dorset House is a 10 storey Grade II Listed Building, designed in the Art Deco style by Joseph Emberton and TP Bennett in the 1930’s. It accommodates 200 apartments, with shops and a service station at street level, together with two levels of basement car parking.

We are the retained by owner for: Restoration and improvement works to the building and, to identifying how redundant areas and spaces could be brought into beneficial economic use. We have involved with the building for some10 years, and over this period of time our scope of work has included: Listed Building Consent for restoring and remodelling the entrance forecourt, lobbies replica Art Deco canopy, creating apartments out of redundant back-of-house areas etc. concept design for penthouses on the roof, together with refurbishment of client owned apartments. In addition we were appointed by Costa Coffee to obtain Listed Building Consent for the conversion of a shop unit into one of their coffee outlets.

An important part of our work is getting the right balance between the historical importance of the listed building and the viability issue to sustain the building. Last, but not least, working with Westminster Conservation to obtain Listed Building Consent approval.
