Dorset, Bournemouth

An important 0.75 ha corner site on the boundary of the Westbourne conservation area, occupied by a 1,500 m² Waitrose store with 90 surface car park spaces.

Dawe + Partners prepared redevelopment proposals and a detailed planning application for the owner, that doubled the size of the Waitrose store to 3,000m², with first floor storage, increased car parking to 255 spaces in a multilevel car park, and added 55 apartments. To enable this enlarged scale of building to sit comfortably in the surroundings, the massing has been fragmented into three compositional elements relating to the uses with different facade treatment to each.
