Olympia Shopping Centre

Czech Republic, Brno

The Olympia Centre was one of the early large out-of-town shopping centres built in the Czech Republic, located on the outskirts of the countries second city Brno.

The design needed to be impressive, to meet the aspiring expectations of the Czech people, and at the same time, cost effective as disposable income was limited which was reflected in rental levels. The concept is based on an ‘industrial building’ approach however, by incorporating large volumes with well place areas of glazing, impact and a sense of identity has been created. Anchors include a hyper market (Carrefour), large furniture outlet together with a multiplex cinema at first floor together with a food court.

The Centre is very successful and was extended 3 years after it initial opening which included the provision of additional car parking at roof level.
